Research
Professor Ian Reid outlined the overall deficits in international PD research. We heard a presentation by Allyson Turnbull, from Dumfries and Galloway Psychology Department looking at the epidemiology of PD in their area. There have been a number of popular workshops looking at the logistics of research.
Future developments
We have promises of more information as the Dumfries project gathers more data and an inpatient survey looking at diagnosis of PD and early trauma undertaken as a PhD project in Aberdeen will be presented.
Professor Kate Davidson, Glasgow University and Professor Ian Reid, Aberdeen University have offered a research clinic for people to bring ideas to. The plan is to circulate everyone on the database asking for ideas or proposals and to follow this up with a meeting for those who replied to look more closely at their suggestions.
Following the presentation on "Mentalisation Based Treatment" by Professor Anthony Bateman there has been adequate interest from clinicians to receive training in this and establish a multi centre trial of MBT which could be compared to CBT or treatment as usual. This will require investment of budget in the training but a submission will be placed with the help of Professors Davidson and Reid to the CSO for additional funding and support.
